  • Marks & Spencer Extends Warangal Cotton Project

Project extended to 2015 to include 20,000 farmers

Marks & Spencer (M&S) today announces phase two of its 'Better Cotton' project in Warangal, Andhra Pradesh, India which aims to deliver an extra 21,000 tonnes of 'Better Cotton' fibre and help improve the lives of 20,000 farmers and their families over the next three and a half years.

  • Cutting food waste

Most people have been brought up not to waste food - I guess few of us haven't.

  • Toilet chemicals and the environment

Our toilets become dumping (excuse the pun) grounds for more than our own waste. In our efforts to create a hygienic environment, we're often killing not only the bacterial nasties, but beneficial organisms and poisoning our waterways.

  • Dealing with Cockroaches

The sight of a cockroach would have my mother calling the exterminators post-haste. In fact, I don't even remember seeing a cockroach in the house we lived in for over a decade, although I'm sure they were there - just scared to death of my mother.

  • 10 Simple Actions that Reduce Your Environmental Impact

There is a big difference between knowing how to live green and actually living green.  Being green isn't always easy and it isn't always cheap but the world you live in becomes a better place for your efforts.

Vancouver's Most Awesome Expo
Needs Vancouver's Most Awesome Volunteers

We've started recruting for EPIC 2012 and are more excited than ever to get bright, passionate, awesomely EPIC volunteers involved!

We have several areas where we need help. These are broken down into three main categories:

Directional & Registration - assisting with welcoming EPIC visitors to the show, take/scan tickets, help manage lines & cues, and be a happy, shiny face eminating awesomeness. Excellent communication skills required.

Show Assistants & Supervisors - taking more functional responsibility at the Main, Fashion and Cooking stages, assisting exhibitors with staffing, moving or assembling their booths, maintaining a presence in the Volunteer Room and helping the Volunteer Coordinator/s, and floating between various tasks assigned by the awesome Operations Manager. Flexible attitude, physical ability and general awesomeness required.

Onsite Sustainability - not glamorous but totally important, assisting with waste stream separation to ensure minimization of waste and maximization of recyclables and re-useables, helping exhibitors with pre- and post-event cleaning. Passion for being awesomely envrionmental required.

Volunteer Orientation

IMPORTANT: Attendance to a Volunteer Orientation Session is mandatory for EPIC 2012. This decision has been made based on four years of experience with less than 50% of volunteers showing up to Orientation resulting in mass confusion and stress at the event.

There will be TWO separate Orientation Sessions to ensure everyone can attend.

Dates and times will most likely be:

Session #A - Friday, May 4. 6:00 pm

Session #B - Tuesday, May 8. 6:00 pm

Please indicate which session you will be attending in your application email. If you cannot attend either, please do not apply.

Shifts

Shift #1 - Friday, May 11, 11:00pm - 4:00 pm

Shift #2 - Friday, May 11, 3:30pm - 8:30 pm

Shift #3 - Saturday, May 12, 10:00am - 3:00pm

Shift #4 - Saturday, May 12, 2:30pm -  7:30pm

Shift #5 - Sunday, May 13, 10:00am - 2:00pm

Shift #6* - Sunday, May 13, 1:30pm - 6:00pm

*Anyone interested in Show Management, Event Production or Trade Show Coordination would benefit from taking this shift to witness a Trade Show of our size being dismantled.
